Undeterred by the fresh bout of rains, which has started hampering relief work in Uttarakhand, Oxfam India strengthened its relief operations in Uttarakhand by providing dry food and blankets to the affected people in Guptkashi in Rudraprayag district through two of its local partners, Jan Vikas Sansthan (JVS) and Himalayan Paryavaran Shiksha Sansthan (HPSS).
Oxfam India plans to provide fleece blankets as well as eatables nearly 8,000 people including men, women and children. “We have distributed ready-to-eat food to 1,200 people including locals and pilgrims. This includes providing bottled drinking water and packets of dry food. Tarpaulins, blankets, foam sheets, hygiene kits, solar lamps and additional food aid for 1,500 households (8100 women men and children) are being procured and being sent to Dehradun,” claimed, Zubin Zaman, Humanitarian Response Manager, Oxfam India.
According to Zaman, the rescue team also stuck at Guptkashi, Rudraprayag district. The team also lamented that over 400 villages in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Tehri regions have been washed off, submerged or affected. The Oxfam India’s response approach would be to assist the NDMA with provisions for the people stranded across the State.
In another relief work, employees of VlCC Personal Care’s, Haridwar factory have contributed a day’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for rehabilitation efforts. In addition, VlCC Personal Care has also donated Rs one lakh to the Uttarakhand Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. “All of us need to come together in this hour of unprecedented human tragedy and do our bit to alleviate the suffering, and work towards rebuilding Uttarakhand,” said VlCC Founder and Mentor Vandana luthra.
