The leader of opposition in the Vidhan Sabha and Haldwani MlA Indira Hridayesh exhorted Congress members and locals to undertake a decisive struggle to get revenue village status of Bindukhatta and facilitate construction of the inter state bus terminal at Haldwani. She was speaking at a protest demonstration staged by the Congress in support of the demand for granting revenue village status to Bindukhatta.
Addressing the gathering after a protest rally, Hridayesh alleged that in about 10 months of its term, the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Uttarakhand had caused major problems for the public. She demanded that the state government should immediately take necessary measures for according revenue village status to Bindhukhatta and to facilitate construction of the ISBT at the site identified earlier for this purpose.
Hridayesh said that disappointed with the “anti-public” policies of the state government, she will be starting a major agitation in the near future. Stating that she will also add revenue village status for Bindukhatta in her demand note to the government, the leader of opposition requested the locals to attend the hunger strike planned at Haldwani on January 30.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, former cabinet minister Harish Chandra Durgapal said that during the elections, the BJP leaders had gone from door to door assuring the locals that Bindukhatta will be accorded status of revenue village.
They had made emotional appeals to the people for votes while assuring them of facilitating the demanded status for Bindukhatta.
However, after being elected to form the government, the BJP leaders had forgotten their promises and demands of the people, he added.
Earlier, a large number of people participated in a protest rally from the martyrs memorial at Bindukhatta to lalkuan. During the rally attended by a number of villagers, especially women, the protesters raised slogans against the state government while also demanding that the promise to accord revenue village status to Bindukhatta be fulfilled.
