Opp leader slams Harish Rawat, BJP

At a time when Congress and its poster boy Harish Rawat are nursing their wounds, post the unparalleled electoral debacle in Uttarakhand, the leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly and the former State minister Indira Hridayesh launched an acerbic attack on the former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, dubbing his defeat as marking a black day for the Congress.

She also slammed the BJP Government for being double- faced on the sensitive issues of checking liquor consumption and illegal mining in the State. She said this in Haridwar on Thursday.

Speaking to The Pioneer, Hridayesh said, “It has happened for the first time in the history of politics of India that a Chief Minister has lost from two seats simultaneously. The people of the State rejected Harish Rawat as the face of the Congress.”  She said that the people’s verdict should be accepted gracefully. “The people’s mandate can never be wrong and we must introspect into the reasons that led to the party’s debacle. One of the reasons may be that the party failed to take all the members along. This was what led to wrong decisions being taken,”  said the leader of  the Opposition.

She did not spare the BJP government either. “The BJP government is busy nullifying the good   works carried out during our regime. Besides, they are shoving to the background  the agenda on which  they won the election with such a decisive mandate.  The party is busy circumventing the liquor ban through circuitous means. The same is true in case of illegal mining,” she said.  “We, however, support the cause of liquor ban in the state,” averred Hridayesh. Earlier, she was given a warm welcome by the party workers on her arrival in Haridwar.
