Opp disrupts Question hour, raises State's farmers issue

The opposition disrupted the Question Hour on Wednesday, citing the issue pertaining to the farmers of the State. They demanded the Speaker to allow a discussion on the issue under section 310 of the Vidhan Sabha rules with the Congress MlA Karan Mahra in the lead.  The treasury bench tried to pacify the opposition, saying that with the  State Agriculture department going to present the department’s budget, they should wait. With the opposition remaining unfazed, the State   Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prakash Pant intervened by throwing a jibe at the opposition. He asked them to clarify who was the leader of the opposition, given some Congress MlAs abusing the leader of the opposition in the House.

Notably, the Congress MlA Harish Dhami had vented his rage on the  loP on Tuesday after  his motion on the fake citizenship issue had been rejected by the House. He had accused the loP of not lending any support to the motion, leaving Indira Hridayesh red-faced.

With the opposition remaining vociferous on the farmers’ issue on Wednesday, the Speaker had to adjourn the House twice. After the House resumed at 12.10 pm after a ten-minute  adjournment, the Speaker assured the opposition that he would listen to their views, no matter whether the discussion was allowed or not.   At this point of time, Prakash Pant said that the time having come for Question Hour, the matter raised during the Zero Hour could not be taken up.  The loP reacted to it, saying that they would allow the House to function if the  Speaker  was ready to give his ruling.

The Speaker gave his ruling but that did not satisfy the opposition, resulting in the Question Hour being wasted away.
