The ruling party MlAs and senior leaders venting disappointment in public against the State Government seems to have given 'undue' advantage to the Opposition party members to hit out at the State Government.
Compounding the woe of the Government, measures taken by the ruling party leaders to rein in the disgruntled party MlAs and leaders have not worked either. Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Kishore Upadhyaya’s recent statewide visit to strike personal rapport with the party rank and file can be described as a step towards this direction.
However, the fact is that though the ruling party and the State Government may try to play down these developments describing them as party's internal matters, voicing their concerns outside the party platform by the ruling party MlAs or other party leaders has undeniably sent a wrong message. The Opposition party leaders have left no stone unturned to capitalise the continuing bickering within the ruling Congress and its Government in the State.
The senior BJP leaders have categorically averred that their party does not want to destabilise a democratically elected Government in the State. But if it collapses under the weight of its own contradictions it is a different matter altogether, they maintained.
However, in bids to accentuate the intra-party squabbles in the ruling party, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, BJP MP from Nainital- Udham Singh Nagar Parliamentary seat, came down heavily on the state Government during his Kumaion visit.
From the way the Congress MlAs are unleashing trouble for the State Government it seems the Congress- led State Government is not functioning like a Government. The BJP does not want to disturb the State Government. But it is quite disappointing to note that the present State Government has badly failed to deliver, alleged Koshyari.
The developments reflecting the State Government in a bad light can be looked against the backdrop of the ruling party having strengthened its position in the electoral politics following its victory in the recently concluded Assembly bypolls. Apparently emboldened by this, the Chief Minister Harish Rawat had hinted that some tough decisions were in the offing to put things of the State back on the rails. However, the intra-party wrangling might come in the way of the State Government going for some drastic surgeries to resuscitate the State from the mess. Worried over dissidence eating its way deep into the party, some senior leaders have opined that things must be worked out sooner than later by fixing responsibility. Things must be exposed in full as we are convinced that the dissidents are doing the bidding of some leaders antagonistic to the Chief Minister, a senior Congress leader said.
