In order to further develop the existing parks of the city, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will be starting open gymnasiums soon. As per the information provided by municipal officials, these open gyms will soon be set up in two parks on trial basis.

The open gyms will be set up in the Gandhi Park and the MDDA park along Rajpur Road. The two parks were chosen after a proposal for setting up open air gyms was passed in the first meeting of the current MCD board.

Providing further information about this, the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) district project officer Ashish Kathait said, “We have recently marked the area in Gandhi Park where open gym will be installed. There are going to be common workout machines which will remain open for all.” Speaking about it mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ said, “Nowadays everyone is conscious regarding their health and we want that people of the Dehradun city to remain healthy.  We want the public to be able to avail all the service when they enter parks for morning walks.

On a trial basis, we are opening two open gyms- one in Gandhi Park and the other in the park at Rajpur Road. Trial open gyms will be installed in the coming 10 days. If the trial of these is successful then we will try to take this concept forward in all 100 wards.” About the entry in these open gyms he said, “These will remain free for the residents of the city, anyone can avail the facility.  There will be 15 to 16 common workout machines in both the parks. The fund that is being spent on these open gyms is about Rs  16 lakh,” said Kathait.
