The Doon hospital registered an appreciable increase in the number of Out Patient Department (OPD) and admitted patients during the first six months of this financial year as compared with last year.
The Principal Medical Superintendent (PMS) Dr RS Aswal said this while addressing newsmen here on Tuesday. He said that the hospital served 50234 more patients this year in the various OPDs in the first six months of this year in comparison to 2013. A total of 283380 new patients visited the OPDs of hospital in first six months while 251315 patients visited the hospital in the corresponding period last year, similarly 167822 old patients visited the OPDs of hospital as compared to 149653 old patients last year.
Releasing the month-wise statement of patients served by different departments Dr Aswal said that the hospital also registered an appreciable increase in the money collected as User charges of different facilities.
In the first half of this year, the hospital collected Rs 12488178 as user charge while collection in the corresponding period last year was Rs 10504827. The increase in the user charges collection is because the hospital now independently operates the MRI machine which last year was in the hands of a private player. The PMS said that despite of the space constraint the hospital is facing due to the ongoing construction activity, it was able to serve 12807 admitted patients this year which is 1235 more patients than 2013.
He informed that the hospital started the services like digital X- ray and thallium laser surgery this year and soon the radiology department would start the facility of Bone marrow densitometer. While most of the departments of Doon hospital registered an increment in number of patients, however the orthopedic department registered a big fall in the number of major and minor operations. The PMS attributed this to reduced staff and disaster of last year. due to which large number of people needed to be operated upon.
