OPD boycott call on hold as police arrests two attackers of Dr SK Verma

Published on:

The OPD boycott called by  the district unit of the Provincial Medical Health Service (PMHS) was suspended after police arrested two persons involved in the assault on Dr SK Verma of Coronation Hospital on Wednesday.

The doctors of the hospital were on a path of agitation from Tuesday. The association of Government doctors, the PMHS had given an OPD

boycott call from Thursday in case the culprits of

manhandling Dr Verma are not arrested. Presumably under pressure from the agitating doctors the police on late Tuesday night arrested Vishal Gupta and Amarjeet Sodhi allegedly involved in the assault of

doctor. The arrest subsided the anger of the doctors and the OPD functioned normally on the day.

On Monday, the relatives and neighbours of one Rajesh Kumar got furious after sudden death and manhandled

Dr Verma. They alleged that Dr Verma had administered an injection to him due to which he died. The doctor was even beaten up with slippers.

The spokesperson of the PMHS, Dr Anand Shukla said that the association has taken back its OPD boycott call in the district. He, however, added that the Government should ensure safety of doctors in the Government hospitals.
