Only Diploma holders eligible to teach

Published on:

The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has made it compulsory that only Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) qualified candidates would be eligible to teach in the primary schools of the country.

The State Government took the plea that it did not have institutions who conducted these courses so the HRD Ministry exempted the State till March 31, 2104. The date draws close and the State still does not have any institute who offers this course.

Interestingly neighbouring Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have plenty of institutes who offer these courses. The Government has recently sent a request to HRD ministry to further relax the condition of DElEd compulsion for two more years, but if the ministry does not oblige the State Government then youths of the State would face problems to become Primary teachers.

Anil Rauthan, a youth who was planning to apply for the DElEd said the Government should get the clearance from the NCTE and start the course in the state, otherwise the candidates from the neighbouring States would become primary teachers in the schools here.
