Busting a wide-spread job racket involving ONGC, Dehradun police have arrested three persons, including an ONGC employee, on Friday on the charge of duping several people on the pretext of providing them with jobs in ONGC. Among the accused trio, there is a couple. The accused have been identified as Deeraj Ahuja and his wife Jyoti Ahuja, resident of Karanpur and lalit Kohli, an employee of ONGC (exchange department). The accused were sent to jail after being presented in the court. Police sprang into action after one Sumit Shahi, resident of Umedpur, Dehradun, had registered a compliant at Cantt police station on July 17, stating that the trio had duped him of Rs 2.5 lakhs on the pretext of providing him with job in ONGC. The accused had neither provided him with the assured job in the ONGC nor had they returned him his hard- earned money, he had said in the complaint. Taking note of the complaint, a case under sections 420/504 of IPC was registered against the accused in the police station, Cantt.
Dehradun SSP Sadanand Date said on Friday that to crack the case, a team led by Cantt police station in-charge was formed.
Investigation confirmed that the accused trio had made forged appointment letter and identity card and duped the complainant of Rs 2.5 lakh.
Investigation further revealed that Nirmal Kaur, resident of Premnagar, had registered another complaint at Cantt police station against the same trio, saying that he had been duped of money the same way around two years ago.
The number of the dupede turned out to be many as the probe unfolded. Amarjeet Singh, Karamjeet Singh, Harjinder Singh and Gurdeep Singh were all duped over the years on the same pretext of providing them with ONGC jobs. The modus oprendi was the same. Forged identity cards and appointment letters were given to them. Team members arrested the trio under sections 420/467/468/120b of IPC. The accused are learnt to have admitted their offenses while being grilled by the police.
