One day Monsoon Session of U’khand Assembly today

Published on:

Amid menacing shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic, the one day monsoon session of Uttarakhand assembly would be organised on Wednesday. The state administration and assembly secretariat has taken all measures for smooth organisation of the session. The monsoon session would be unprecedented since there would be no question hour during the session and the members would be allowed to attend the session virtually. The speaker Premchand Agarwal, leader of opposition Indira Hridayesh, Minister Dhan Singh Rawat, deputy leader of Congress legislature party Karan Mahra and many MLAs from both BJP and Congress would not attend the session as they all are suffering from Covid-19. The pandemic has already forced the government to cut short the three day session. Since there should not be a time gap of more than six months between two sessions, there is an obligation to organise session before September 25.

In absence of the speaker Premchand Agarwal who was detected positive for Covid-19 on Sunday, the house would be chaired by the deputy speaker Raghunath Singh Chauhan.  The government is planning to table about 20 bills some of whom are ordinances during the session. The strategy of the government would be getting these bills cleared in a single sitting.  The opposition Congress would bring work adjournment motions for Covid-19, unemployment, disaster and farmers issues.

Meanwhile in an appeal, the speaker Premchand Agarwal who is recuperating from Covid-19 has appealed to the members of both the treasury benches and opposition to ensure that the session is conducting as per the constitutional ethos.
