Acting on the direction of the district court, the SSP has lodged an FIR against Premnagar police station in-charge Yashpal Bisht and sub-inspector Jitendra Kumar over the alleged beating up of the accused in a land forgery case, liyakat Ali, in police custody. Besides, the duo has been attached to the SSP’s office by way of punishment transfer.

The complainant Ali had said that the duo had demanded lakhs of rupees from him by way of extortion to help him out of the case. The alleged extortion bid has figured in the FIR too.

A case under sections 325/385 of IPC has been registered against the police duo in the Premnagar police station. SP City Ajay Singh was assigned the task to conduct investigation in the case. Singh collected all the documents related to the case, it is learnt. He said that investigation has started. The statement of the complainant would soon be recorded. Things started after the complainant’s wife had registered a complaint against the police duo.

Dehradun SSP Sadanand Date has taken the action after the District Court rejected the police’s revision petition on Wednesday and ordered the lower court’s order to be implemented.

It should be mentioned here that lower court had on June 10 directed the district police to lodge an FIR against above-mentioned police officers over this same issue within 24 hours. However, senior police officers of the district had tried their best to save their sub-ordinates and filed revision petition in the district court, challenging the lower court’s order.

Notably, Dehradun police had arrested liyakat Ali, resident of Bharuwala, who was allegedly involved in a land fraud case. Police had taken Ali on police remand for four hours on May 24. Police later sent the accused Ali in Suddhowala jail after conducting his medical test in a Government hospital.

But the allegation runs that the police station in-charge Yashpal Bisht and investigating officer had brought the accused in police station before the accused was sent to jail. In Premnagar police station, the accused was allegedly beaten up by police officers. It was said that the jail officials had provided medical treatment to the accused in jail hospital.

On May 30, a team of judicial officers had reached Suddhowala jail, inspected the campus and asked the inmates about their conditions. Ali had informed the judicial officers about his condition while narrating how he had been beaten up by the police when he  was taken into police custody.

On May 31, an advocate on the behalf of accused’s wife had submitted a plea in the court following which the court had sought report regarding the same from the SSP on June 7.

In regards to this case, the lower court had also directed the health department to conduct an inquiry into the role of the team of three doctors formed by CMO, Doon Hospital which had conducted medical checkup of the accused and submitted the report in five days as stipulated.

The lower court had issued a notice to the team of doctors and asked why FIR should not be lodged against them to be followed by departmental action.

The medical team comprising Dr Navneet Bedi, Dr Nidhi Uniyal and Dr Chetan Giroti had received notice from the court. The court had directed the health department to submit a report after conducting through investigation of the case in five days, it is learnt.
