The process to replace old CT scan machine in the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) has started. The principal of GDMC, Dr Pradeep Bharati Gupta said that tenders for purchase of new CT scan machine had been floated recently. He said that four companies have shown interest to install the machine in the medical college hospital.

In the pre-bid meeting held on Thursday, the representatives of Philips, Siemens, Toshiba and WIPRO participated. The principal, further, said that the new machine would be much improved from the present one and the patients would be benefited from it.

The existing CT scan machine GDMC hospital has become obsolete due to which it has become prone to constant breakdowns. The hospital authorities inform that the machine is designed to conduct only 4.5 lakh scans but more than 12 scans have been done on it till date.

The machine was installed in the erstwhile Doon hospital in the year 2004. The manufacturer of the machine ‘Siemens International’ also holds the maintenance contract of the machine.

The hospital authorities have now floated tenders to purchase an ultra modern 128 slice CT scan machine. The team of the Medical Council of India (MCI) in its visit to the hospital had also pointed that the CT scan machine of the hospital is old and do not confers to the norms prescribed for a medical college.

The repeated disruption in the CT scan machine ensures windfall for the private centers

These private centres charge Rs 4000- 5000 for CT scan while in Doon hospital the fee is only Rs 1500. Moreover the hospital conducts free CT for the BPL patients and those covered under the Mukjyamtri Swasthya Bima Yojna (MSBY).
