Officials told to ensure smooth admission process

Published on:

With the Court allowing admissions in degree courses only as per laid-down norms, the district administration, Nainital, has asked the officials concerned of the various Government degree colleges to take necessary steps to ensure that the admission process is smooth.

At the same time, the Nainital district administration has also asked the officials concerned of the higher education department to submit a list of the actual number of students for this academic session, keeping in view the total number of students who had taken admission in the previous years so that necessary steps could be taken to accommodate all the admission seekers.

The Nainital district administration has also directed the officials concerned of the higher education department and SDM, Haldwani and SDM, Ramnagar to identify the Government buildings around the degree colleges so that these buildings could be handed over to the degree college authorities. A proposal might be sent to the Government to accommodate as many students as possible.

Meanwhile, a proposal will also be sent to the Government to run evening classes in the degree colleges and efforts will also be made to increase the number of teaching staff in the higher educational institutions.

Notably, there are teachers in only 570 posts in 70 Government graduate and post-graduate colleges across the State, while the sanctioned strength of such teaching staff is 1366 for the same number of colleges.

More so, out of these 70 Government graduate or post graduate colleges, only 40 such colleges are presently being run as per the basic norms in terms of minimum basic infrastructure like having buildings of their own.

Among 30 such colleges left, as many as five colleges located at Kotabag, Chinyalisaur, Satputli, Guptkashi and Garur do not have lands to construct buildings, while six colleges at Munsyari, Mazra Mahadev, Thyur, Kapkot, Rudraprayag and lakshar possess land, but they do not have the basic infrastructure — buildings and the like — informed the officials concerned of the high education department, Uttarakhand. However, there are 19 such colleges where building construction process is underway.

Moreover, 10 new degree colleges would come up across the State during the academic session 2014-2015, it is learnt.
