Uttarakhand Transport Minister Surendra Rakesh directed the senior officials to deduct a day’s salary of 16 employees who were absent during the surprise inspection at transport commissioner office on Monday. Surprise inspection exposed lackadaisical approach of the employees.

Visibly angry, the minister asked the officials to mend their ways or else they would have to face the music. The minister received several complaints about the employees bunking the office. Absence of the employees was causing severe inconvenience to the people visiting the office to get their work done. In order to find out the reality, the minister along with senior officials reached the commissioner office in the morning. Seeing the minister in the office, the employees were all surprised. After that he began inspection.

He inspected all the sections. At some sections, some employees were absent. It irked the minister. In all, 16 employees were absent. He immediately directed the senior officials to deduct a day salary of the employees absent from duty. He also directed the officials to slap a show cause notice on the employees, asking them to present their side within a week.

“All the employees should report to duty on time. Condition should be improved within a week. Surprise inspection will be carried out time to time. Dereliction in duty will not be tolerated. Mend your ways or else get ready to face the action,” the minister said. He also expressed concern over deficit in the department. Efforts should be taken to improve the situation. “Deficit is already there in the department. Recent disaster has added to the woes further. So, each employee should work in a dedicated way to increase the income of the department,” the minister said.

The minister said that the department faced loss worth Rs 25 crore during lost three months. He asked the employees to draw a plan and work in such a way that the deficit could be removed. He said that hard working was the only way out to improve the financial condition of the department. “If I get complaint against any employee in future, I would ensure strict action,” the minister said. The minister advised the employees to give up this approach. He directed the employees that files related to various issues should not be held up without any reason. “Clear the files soon as possible. Develop a culture of fast pace functioning,” he said.
