'Officials should attend dayitvadharis meetings'

Published on:
Venting anger over the officials concerned not taking ‘dayitvadharis’ seriously, Balam Singh Bisht, vice-chairman of the State construction advisory committee, said such nonchalance on part of the officials is undesirable, stressing that the ‘dayitvdharis’ are part and parcel of the State Government.   He sounded disappointed over several officials from  departments of irrigation, construction and minor irrigation remaining absent from the meeting held on Monday to review various developmental works.
Bisht warned that aside  from the responsibilities they are entrusted with, they have been given the authority to exercise their power too. “The officials should better attend the  meetings convened by ‘dayitvadharis’. We would not take things lightly, as such absence of  the officials concerned affects officials works, delaying development,” said Bisht. He further said he would soon take the matter up with the Chief Minister.
Speaking of development, he said that the state government has already released funds under the district plan. “We hope things would go on apace with the officials discharging their duties in the right manner. We would not brook any kind of laxity,” he said.
He, at the same time, called upon the officials concerned to maintain transparency in carrying out the developmental works. “Besides, they are supposed to  inform the elected local representatives like gram pradhans, gram panchayat members, zila panchayat members and MlAs about the ongoing developmental works.
Stressing on the need to expedite the pace of developmental works, Bisht exhorted the officials concerned to maintain quality of works. “In case quality suffers  necessary action would be initiated   against the errant officials without fail,” he asserted. He also directed the officials to address the grievances of the people as far as possible  when they are on field visits.
