Officials seek parents' written plaints

Published on:

It is an established fact that the big private schools openly flout the rules and they are powerful enough to escape the dragnet of education department. The education department officials say that the parents should come forward with written complaints.

The district education office of Dehradun has opened a specific complaints counter for this purpose. One official of the education department said that most of the big schools are either affiliated by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or Indian Council of Secondary Education (ICSE). These schools have to take only a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the State education department before applying for the affiliation from these boards.

The State Government has made the norms of NOC very easy and it leaves very little scope with the education department to deal with them. The RTE has given some powers to the department but for that the parents have to lodge a written complaint.

The parents hesitate to file complaints against the school authorities due to fear of discrimination by the school authorities against their wards. The city coordinator of the RTE reveals that she had received only eleven complaints against the private schools regarding RTE violation last month.
