The district administration officials claim that the preparations for the upcoming Panchayat election is in full swing. However, as the final schedule for the election is yet to be announced, all the relevant preparations related to the elections are in progress.
People can register their objections against any kind of error or irregularity in their names or any other information printed in the voter list. A hearing by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate would be held from January 16 to 19 in this regard.
The required number of officials is much higher than the number of officials available for Panchayat election duty.
According to Assistant District Election Officer, AC Dubey there is shortage of around 1,000-1,500 officials for Panchayat election duty. The number of officials available is much less than the 8,000 required in the State.
He said that in order to tackle the situation officers would be deployed in three shifts at different booths. The officials deployed in first shift would be re-deployed in the third shift. A team of five including one woman and four men would be deployed at each booth.
He also said that the number of women Government employees in the state capital is much higher at around 30-40 percent. Special care would be taken while deploying the female employees at the booths. Most probably the women employees would be deployed in the block where they are currently posted.
He said that earlier in 2008 there were 422 Gram Panchayats in Dehradun district which has now increased to 460. Similarly, the total number of booths in 2008 was around 1,283. Due to the addition of these new Gram Panchayats the number of booths should also be increased accordingly, he said.
