Officials asked to resolve mining anomalies on Gaula riverbed

The Uttarakhand Forest Development Corporation managing director Rajendra Kumar Mahajan has directed corporation officials to resolve anomalies in mining on Gaula riverbed and to facilitate health facilities to workers at all depots of the UFDC.

Addressing the media after chairing a meet with corporation officials, Mahajan said that efforts will be made to correct any anomalies in mining at Imlighat on the Gaula. The corporation will enter into a contract with a software company to facilitate measures for resolving irregularities like overloading and improper weighing of quarried material.

Recently there have been reports of rampant anomalies in the mining operation at Imlighat. So far the authorities have been unable to clamp down on irregularities with locals alleging that even illegal mining is not being stopped by the corporation or Forest department. However, Mahajan said that in the coming season, PRD jawans will be posted at sensitive gates and the corporation will also take help from the police in order to stop illegal quarrying. Apart from this, water will be sprinkled at all the gates to prevent dust flying during movement of vehicles used for transporting the quarried materials. The UFDC MD said that a centre will be opened for educating the children of labourers and labourers will be registered and then provided free medical facilities at Sushila Tiwari government hospital in Haldwani.
