Nurses threaten fresh stir as Govt sits on demands

No action being taken despite consensus having evolved over their long-pending demands, Uttarakhand Nurses’ Association is again gearing up for a fresh bout of agitation.

Addressing a Press conference in Dehradun on Saturday, Anjana Bhowmick, president of the organisation, said as the nurses had continued with their agitation to press their demands in September a consensus was reached over their demands between the State Government and the State Nurses’ Association.

“But we regret to say that the State Government has not yet acted on it. This despite the fact that the High Court stepped in to have our grievances redressed. This is unfortunate,” she said.

“let me remind you that that the members of the nurses’ association had talked with the State Government officials in the presence of the Health Minister and the Chief Secretary and a mutual agreement evolved on nine of their charter of demands. We withdrew the stir, believing that the State Government would act on the consensus promptly. But things have been vegetating for the past three months with the State Government sitting on them,” Anjana Bhowmick said.

Bhowmick also alleged that grade pay proposal for the amendment that was supposed to be sent to the committee headed by the cabinet minister Yashpal Arya was yet to be sent. “The posts of the health director and deputy director in the Directorate of Medical Education aside from several other important posts are yet to be filled. Besides, the secretary of nursing in Nursing Council has not been appointed yet despite the director general being asked to act on it urgently. A nurse from each of the districts is to be awarded with the Florence Nightingale award on the State’s foundation day. But things did not happen as assured,” she said.
