As compared to the previous Assembly election held in 2012, the number of voters in Haridwar district has gone up by nearly two lakh-from about 11 lakh to a little over 13 lakh. While the Ranipur seat registered the maximum increase, the Manglaur seat registered the minimum rise in populace.
The total number of voters during the last Assembly polls of Haridwar district was 10.87 lakhs with 5, 94,091 men and 4, 93,439 women. Now the figure is 13.02 lakhs- 1, 07,620 women and 1, 07,412 men. While Manglaur seat marked the lowest of 13.06 per cent increase Ranipur seat has emerged as the largest one in terms of the number of voters with a leap of nearly 30 per cent.
Interestingly, the women have surged past the men in terms of number in several seats up for grabs in the district like Haridwar Rural, Jwalapur, Bhagwanpur, Jhabreda, Roorkee and Manglaur. However, in some seats like Kaliyar, Ranipur, Haridwar City, laksar and Khanpur, things are the other way round with men outnumbering women.
In 2012 Vidhan Sabha elections, Haridwar was the biggest seat in terms of the number of voters while laksar was the smallest one. This time round, Ranipur has emerged as the largest.
