Dehradun: The number of dengue cases in the State capital mounted to 122 with 16 new cases of the disease reported on Sunday. The district Vector Borne Diseases officer, J P Bahuguna said that 14 of the 16 new Enzyme linked Immunosorbent Assay (ElISA) test positive cases on Sunday belong to dengue infested Patharibagh area while one patient each belong to Bhandaribagh and THDC colony.

He said that samples of 81 suspected cases were taken in the health camp organized in the Patharibagh area on Sunday. The department has taken 517 samples from Patharibagh alone from July 15 till date. The health department continued its activity in Patharibagh and surrounding areas on Sunday also.

The teams of the department and Mahant Indiresh Hospital are organizing camps in the area and many rounds of fogging is undertaken to kill mosquitoes. The State Health Minister Surendra Singh Negi has clearly directed the officials to continue camping in Patharibagh till the disease is decimated completely.

On the occurrence of most of the cases in a small area, the health department officials are of the view that the concentration of the disease area is due to a phenomenon called Tran ovarian transmission. In this the eggs of the dengue infected female of previous season get hatched in large numbers on attainment of favorable conditions.

These eggs though laid in last season had developed a cyst around themselves and they undergo a phase of dormancy to ward off non favorable phase. All the mosquitoes which get hatched from this way are infected with dengue virus and since their concentration is more in a particular area local outbreak of the disease is reported.
