To show strength, hundreds of supporters led by NSUI candidate Navneet Negi assembled at Congress Bhawan and later they rallied up to the college campus. Supporters shouted slogans in favour of NSUI and its candidate Navneet Negi. At College, supporters burst crackers and entered the college campus, dancing to drum beats — moves that are in blatant violation of lyngdoh Committee Recommendations for the students’ union election. There are reasons to believe that some outsiders had participated in the rally — again in violation of the norms envisaged by lyngdoh.
The election officers and police remained mute spectators. The officers seemed more interested in having the rally peacefully completed rather than in stopping the students from violating the lyngdoh Committee Recommendation.
Moreover, the administration had made elaborate security arrangements to avoid untoward incidents in the college campus. Police officers, including DSP, inspectors, sub-inspectors, constables, lady constables, were deployed in the college for peaceful completion of the nomination process. Rallies taken out by several students’ leaders caused traffic congestions on various roads in the city, resulting the commuters facing inconvenience outside the college campus and in the city.
