The Opposition BJP on Tuesday tried to embarrass the ruling Congress in the State Assembly when it raised the issue of self-immolation by a National Student Union of India (NSUI) leader in Ramnagar.
leader of Opposition Ajay Bhatt and Rudrapur MlA Rajkumar Thakral sought permission of Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal to discuss the suicide (self immolation) of NSUI leader Rohit Pande.
The Speaker however did not allow discussions under this section which requires voting. The discussion was later held under Section 58.
Speaking on the issue Bhatt said that an innocent life was lost in Ramnagar due to internal politics of Congress party. He said that the state government’s plan of a CID CB investigation is mere eyewash as this agency comes under state government.
Bhatt said that a free and fair investigation by an independent agency like CBI should be roped in the investigation to go into the depth of the suicide.
Talking with the newsmen during the lunch hour the Chief Minister Harish Rawat said that his Government is ready to announce any type of probe in the death of the NSUI leader.
He however added that the sentiments of the family members of the deceased NSUI leader should also be taken into confidence on the issue. It is worth mentioning here that the father and elder brother of the Rohit Pande have shown their reluctance for any type of investigation in the tragic death of his son.
