Demanding affiliation of DAV College with the Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University (SDSUU), the activists of National Students Union of India (NSUI) staged a protest at the DAV college campus here on Thursday.
The members of NSUI gathered at the entrance gate of the DAV College, which is the biggest college of the State and raised slogans demanding change of the affiliation. The leader of NSUI Mohan Bhandari said that the college was temporarily affiliated with HNB Garhwal Central University (HNBGCU) since 2009 and the university has not given permanent affiliation to the college in last six years.
He said the HNBGCU was a central university and hence it was governed by the Central Government’s guidelines due to which the students of the State face problems. Bhandari said that last year the decision of High Court to restrict admissions in the colleges of State resulted in deprivation of admissions to thousands of the students of State. These students had to take admissions in private colleges which charge big fees from them. The students later handed over a memorandum to the Principal of the college Devendra Bhasin.
When contacted the Principal told The Pioneer that the college was also interested to get affiliation from the Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University. He said that for this the college should seek de-affiliation from HNBGCU but it would require change in Central Universities Act.
It is worth mentioning here that the state government applied for the de-affiliation of 42 Colleges from HNBGCU but it ran into rough weather as it would require amendment in section 4 (F) of universities act of University Grants Commission (UGC). The Parliament of India is authorized to bring amendment in this act.
