In protest against the petrol and diesel hike, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) activists burned the effigy of Union Government in front of the DAV College here on Friday. A large number of supporters of the NSUI, which is the student wing of the Congress party, gathered on the spot and shouted slogans against the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government.

Speaking on the occasion the state vice-president of NSUI, Naresh Rana said that the people of the country are already facing hardships as the prices of food and vegetables have increased due to recent spell of unseasonal rains and hailstorms which destroyed the crops.

He said the Union Government has rubbed salt to the sufferings of people by increasing the prices of petrol and diesel now. Rana said that the prices would skyrocket by this untimely increase.

NSUI leader Mohan Bhandari said the Central Government should rollback the price hike in public interest. The NSUI activists later consigned to flames an effigy of NDA Government as a mark of their protest.
