Now the domestic sector consumers may be able to receive electricity bills at their doorsteps under the spot billing system. It may be recalled that the Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) has already introduced the spot billing system to the consumers of the commercial sector.
Now in second phase it wants to provide this spot billing facility to the domestic sector consumers too.With spot billing machines (SBMs) the meter readers from the power department concerned will now reach every household of their respective area and hand over the electricity bills to the consumers as per their electricity meter reading.
Both the service provider and the consumer are going to be benefitted under this system. On the one hand this kind of spot billing system will help the power department to make timely recovery of the dues, on the other the consumers will also get rid of the problems like backlog of electricity bills as under this new system they would be able to pay as per the meter reading and that too in a timely manner.
Earlier the consumers used to get their monthly electricity bills sometimes late by about one /two months resulting in amassing of the dues, said H K Gururani, Superintending Engineer, UPCl’s electricity distribution circle, Haldwani.
With generation of electricity bills on the spot, now the consumers will be able to get the electricity bill according to the current meter reading and that too at their door steps, added Gururani.
However, the consumers will have to make the payment against their electricity bills at their respective electricity billing counters, maintained the Superintending Engineer.
More so, due time has also been given to the consumers to deposit their electricity bills even after issuance of the electricity bills.
Officials state that all consumers will be brought under this spot billing system soon. It is worth mention here that this spot electricity billing system may come in handy for the domestic consumers belonging to the rural areas also who most of the time don’t get their electricity bills on time and more importantly, most of the times on account of delay in payment of the electricity bills, they also get their power connection disconnected.
Now they would also be able to update their bill payment schedule with the help of the spot billing system.
