The manager of a Dehradun-based public sector bank has been issued a notice for his alleged involvement in bank loan fraud case by the Cantt police. However, police declined to name the manager, saying that the investigation is on.

A senior police officer probing the bank loan fraud cases said that more is in store as several other bank officials are involved in such cases across  the State. The names would be revealed soon, said the police officer.

The involvement of the bank official was revealed in a case in connection to which Cantt police had arrested Virendra Singh Negi, resident of Nehru Colony, on the charge of securing loans amounting to crores of rupees with forged documents. The accused was arrested on June 8.  He had secured loans worth crores from a host of banks against forged documents.

Cantt police station inspector Harish Mehra said that the accused along with his accomplices had secured loans worth crores of rupees from various Dehradun- based banks after he submitted forged land registry documents and other spurious documents.

The accused had fled to evade the police arrest.  Investigation revealed that around a dozen cases had been registered against him under various police stations of the district.

In course of interrogation, the accused had disclosed names of persons who were involved in fraud cases. Teams were formed to arrest the remaining gang members. Two accused are expected to be arrested soon, police said.

In course of interrogation, names of some bank staff and stamp dealers have been revealed. Team members are investigating the bank officials’ involvement in these cases thoroughly. Things have started being revealed now and the full picture would come out soon, police said.

Negi had secured loan worth crores from various banks like PNB Karanpur, PNB Rishikesh, PNB Nayagoan, PNB Astley Hall, Bank of Baroda, Indiabulls Bank Rajpur Road, Union Bank at MKP, UCO Bank Sahastradhara, Punjab and Sindh Bank Rajpur Road, PNB Garhi Cantt, PNB Survey of Of India, Central Bank of India, City Bank Rajpur Road, UCO Bank Clock Tower and Union Bank of Kuwalta Terhi Garhwal.

Moreover, in view of spiralling bank loan fraud cases, Dehradun SSP Sadanand Date has directed all the police station officers to conduct thorough investigation once such cases are registered in their police station. He further hinted that such a huge magnitude of fraud  could not happened without  the complicity of the bank officials.
