Nothing new in Cong splits: BJP

Published on:

A misconception is being spread regarding the recent split in the Congress in Uttarakhand with the BJP being accused of orchestrating the split. Splits are not new to the Congress which has a history of such divisions, said Nainital Udham Singh Nagar MP and BJP leader Bhagat Singh Koshyari while addressing the media here on Tuesday. He regretted the fact that name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being unnecessarily dragged in the whole episode.

Narrating the history of splits in the congress he said that these divisions were always caused by party insiders. Koshyari advised Harish Rawat to get acquainted with the history of Congress splits before blaming the BJP for it.

The BJP leader disclosed that the some rebel Congress MlAs had sent feelers to senior BJP leader last year also but Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed the BJP to keep a distance from them. lampooning Harish Rawat for blaming BJP for split in Congress, Koshyari said that it was Congress which is poaching on one of BJP's MlA (Bhim lal Arya) as it kept him away from assembly on March 18 and is in turn blaming BJP for practicing immorality in politics.

Justifying the imposition of President’s rule in state he said that a government falls immediately in case a money bill is not passed and even if one member demands division of votes than the speaker is bound to grant it. The BJP leader said that the speaker acted in patrician way by passing the budget and termed it a murder of democracy on the floor of the house on March 18. He opined that the governor should have removed the Chief Minister on that very date and put the house in suspended animation. Similarly Harish Rawat should have resigned on moral grounds but it appears he was interested to stick to the power come what may. He said that BJP approached President of India and complained about breakdown of constitutional machinery in Uttarakhand and he acted by imposing President’s rule. The senior BJP leader said that Congress is now trying to drag the matter by going to the court but the courts too would justify imposition of President’s rule. He evaded questions like as to who would be the next Chief Minister and why BJP is not opting for elections but added that it appears that mood of the most of the MlAs of the present assembly is that they should be allowed to work for full term.
