The State Government’s hope for getting 712 new medical officers for its ailing health service has got dashed due to non availability of the candidates of reserved category. The Uttarakhand Medical Service Selection Board (UMSSB) entrusted with the selection of 712 Medical Officers (MO) for the state health services has prepared the final result and the final list is expected to be released soon.

However in absence of the candidates of the reserved category, the board has selected about 450 candidates only, which means that more than 250 posts would remain vacant in the recruitment drive. The selected MO would be inducted in the pay scale of 56100- 177500 (level 10) of state health services and as per the plans these doctors would be appointed in the health centres located in mountainous areas the state.

The member of the UMSSB, Dr D S Rawat confirmed that many posts of the reserved category would not get filled due to non availability of the candidates.

In the recruitment advertisement released in month of October last year, out of the total 712 posts, 200 were reserved for Schedule Caste, 33 for Schedule Tribe (ST) while 154 were reserved for the Other Backward Castes (OBC).

More than 1600 candidates applied for 712 posts of medical officers in the recruitment drive out of them 1400 appeared for the interviews. In view of the less number of candidates belonging to the reserved category, the UMSSB extended the last date of application many times.
