No swine flu drug, no anti-rabies vaccine

While the Doon hospital waits for its quota of swine flu medicines the serum used in anti-rabies treatment is also out of stock. It is worth mentioning here that the dog bite cases constitute almost 98 percent of the total cases of animal bite which are reported in the Doon hospital. These cases are treated by injecting serum and the vaccines which are very costly. The serum is more helpful in treating cases of stray dog bite and it is injected into the wound within ten days of the animal bite.

The Chief Pharmacist of Doon hospital K C Kukreti accepted that the serum is out of stock for last two months but vaccine of anti rabies is available. He said that the company which supplies the serum has not dispatched the consignment to the hospital despite many reminders. The lack of serum is creating problems to the patients of dog bite as they have to bear an amount of Rs 1500 in the private hospitals for the same.
