In what came as some respite to the people, no protest rallies to the Vidhan Sabha were held on the first day of the special Assembly session on Monday. However, some supporters of MlAs attempted to enter the Vidhan Sabha campus without displaying valid entrance passes. Such issues were solved with the intervention of senior administrative officers.
The police also seemed to have heaved a sigh of relief as the first day of the two-day session passed off sans any stir by any organisation. Earlier, anticipating such stirs, Dehradun police had made elaborate security arrangements. The Dehradun additional district magistrate Harbeer Singh said before the session commenced that security had been beefed up at the entrances of the House to stop anybody from getting into the premises without having officially issued entry passes. He further said that police had prevented activists of some political parties from entering the premises sans passes.
What happened is that the security guards faced the heat from some BJP activists loyal to some MlAs after they were stopped from entering the premises as they had no valid passes.
Meanwhile, additional police forces were deployed on Monday to ensure fool-proof security for the session. SP City Ajay Singh said that additional police personnel included four additional SPs, 11 DSPs, eight inspectors/police station in-charge, 36 sub-inspectors, four woman sub-inspectors, 26 chief constables, 150 constables, 34 women constables, three tear gas teams, two companies and one platoon of PAC, two units of fire service and three units of quick response teams.
Besides, a traffic plan was drafted in view of the session beginning on Monday. However, as no rally was taken out traffic at Rispana Bridge was not diverted. Traffic was thus smooth there to the relief of the commuters.
