No place for such inefficient cops: Rawat

Taking a serious note of the dreaded criminal Amit Malik, alias Bhura, having escaped and the police being looted of their weapons, Chief Minister Harish Rawat vented strong displeasure. Visibly angry, he reportedly said there is no place for such inefficient police officers. Now, what is the use of such police officers who cannot protect themselves and their weapons as well, he is said to have asked.

Rawat, who keeps receiving flaks from the Opposition for his Government’s perceived failure on the law and order front is supposed to have conveyed his frustration to the top brass of the Uttarakhand Police.

Mounting attack on the State Government, Nainital MP and former CM Bhagat Singh Koshyari said while talking to The Pioneer that such incidents are inevitable with the ruling party leaders fawning on criminals. leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly, Ajay Bhatt said that it is high time for the State Government to go for a bout of serious introspection on the fast worsening law and order situation in the State.

They should take our criticism as constructive one and act on it to plug the loopholes, he said. Incidents reducing the law-enforcing agencies to ridicule keep on happening at regular intervals. The mining mafia gang-war outside Roorkee Jail, mafia firing shots at ASP at Roorkee, seven- year- old girl being raped and murdered, the triple murder reported from Tehri-the list seems endless, Bhatt said.
