No nephrologist at Doon hospital

The posting of the lone specialist of nephrology of Doon hospital here to the Char Dham Yatra duty is causing problems to the patients of kidney related diseases. These patients can be seen arguing with the hospital staff which merely asks them to come next month or visit any other hospital.

The lone Nephrologist of Doon hospital Dr Harish Basera was sent to Char Dham Yatra duty by the State Government. Basera would be posted at Janaki Chatti, Uttarkashi from May 1 to May 31. The absence of Basera has caused the Doon hospital authorities to temporarily stop the functioning of its Nephrology department.

The renal patients who regularly need the services of dialysis are worst affected by the absence of the specialist. These patients are asked to get the dialysis done at the Coronation hospital. The Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of Doon Hospital Dr R S Aswal said that the hospital authorities are sending the cases of nephrology to the Coronation hospital.

He said that the Char Dham Yatra is also important and many doctors of the hospital would be posted on Yatra duty on rotational basis and the services at the hospital would be managed by best use of available resources.

The Health Directorate has appointed ten doctors of Doon hospital on Char Dham Yatra duty out of these six are physicians and two Chief Medical Officers (CMOs).

The Doon hospital which caters about 3,500 patients daily in its various Out Patient Departments (OPDs) is the largest civil hospital of the State. The hospital caters not only the patients of the state but also large number of patients from Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The deployment of these doctors at the Char Dham Yatra route would surely affect the normal functioning of the hospital.
