Nearly 2.5 kilometres from the Chorabari Tal which had burst its banks in 2013 to cause the Kedarnath disaster, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) recently spotted another lake. According to SDRF there is no immediate danger from the lake. The force is keeping a regular check on the condition of this glacial lake.

Rudraprayag District Magistrate (DM) Mangesh Ghildiyal said, “Ahead of the Chorabari Tal we spotted a lake at the foothill of the glacier. We have contacted Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology; they will be sending their team here for inspection. On the basis of that team’s recommendations we will be taking suitable actions.”

SDRF Superintendent of Police (SP), Commandant, Tripti Bhatt said, “The glacial lake is a natural phenomenon and it poses no immediate danger. Our team is regularly maintaining a check on the lake and its progress, if any.”
