Encroachment and illegal constructions remain a headache despite occasional drives being launched by enforcement agencies against such illegal activities. Nainital district administration, police, and civic bodies launched a joint drive against encroachment and illegal constructions in different parts of Haldwani on Thursday.
However, the people are skeptical about the outcome of such drives. The fact is that despite warnings being issued and fines being slapped, encroachments continue unabated in the market places in Haldwani and other busy areas across the district, hitting vehicular traffic in such areas.
Taking action against such illegal construction, the enforcement agencies here on Thursday banned such construction in Haldwani’s Ranibagh and Banbhool pura areas.
It may be recalled that the Naintial district administration officials also launched similar drives against encroachments and illegal constructions in June last. Yet things are still continuing under the nose of the law-enforcers.
The people say it is easier to remove temporary structures from busy market places. But to demolish permanent illegal constructions from busy markets or other public places involves the real challenge for the enforcement agencies and they are failing to rise up to them, they rued.
