No early respite from heat: Met

Published on:

Despite clouds gathering in the sky in Dehradun since the afternoon on Friday, the Meteorological Centre Dehradun said there would not be rain here on Saturday. Rather, the mercury would further rise up, albeit marginally.

According to the director of the centre, Anand Sharma, weather would be dry in the State except in a few districts in the hills like Uttarkashi and Chamoli where very light rains or thunder-storms might occur sporadically. The climate of the rest of the State would remain dry on Saturday, he said.

In Dehradun, the sky would remain mainly clear with possibilities of cloud formation towards afternoon/evening of Saturday as per the weather forecast.

If the weathermen are to be believed there would be no appreciable let-up in the heat spell that has been continuing in Dehradun and its neighbouring areas for the past few days on Saturday.

“We were a bit enthused seeing clouds hovering over the sky in the city.  However, things remaining dry would mean that we would have to put up with the blistering heat for one more day.  However, the penumbra left by the cloud layers has saved us from the scorching sun on Friday.  We hope, rains would come soon to give us respite from the searing climate,” said a resident of Salawala in Dehradun.

According to the Met department, the maximum and minimum temperatures in Dehradun would be around 38 degree and 23 degree Celsius respectively.  On Friday, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 37.6 degree and 23.7 degree Celsius.
