The female wing of the associated hospital of Doon Medical College here is hampered with severe shortage of basic things required in the surgeries. It is learnt that the doctors are forced to wear polythene sheets in absence of Aprons required during surgery like caesarian operation.
The members of the staff privately admit that things are getting worse from bad as the basic requirements like aprons, fluids, stitches, gloves, cotton and sanitizers are not available in the hospital. The patients are forced to buy these things from the market.
“leave the injections or medicines, we are facing crisis of most basic things in the hospital. Operation Theatres are not being fumigated and doctors and patients are under threat of spread of infection,’’ said one of a doctor of the hospital.
When contacted the Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital, Dr KK Tamta said that the hospital is in process of floating its own tenders and things would be better when the process of tenders is initiated.
It is worth mentioning here that the medicines and other equipment scarcity of the hospital are triggered by the reluctance of State health department to issue medicines to it.
The department argues that since the hospital is now part of medical college it should manage on its own.
The Government, on other hand, has released a sum of only Rs20 lakh to the hospital to purchase medicines and other items which is too less an amount in view of the requirement.
The order of Principal Secretary Om Prakash to the health directorate to provide medicines and injections tothe hospital too has failed to improve things in the biggest hospital of the State.
