The vigilance unit of Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) conducted drives against power theft in Kumaon Division and nine persons were caught while hooking on Saturday. Cases against nine power pilferers under appropriate sections of IPC were registered in the local police station. Such drive would continue at various places in the State, said a UPCl official. UPCl launched a drive against power pilferage in the State. People were appealed to inform UPCl on toll free number 1800-180-4185 between 10 am and 5 pm on working day to report such cases of hooking. The names of such persons who will inform the department about power theft in their locality will be kept secret. They can also inform the department through fax on phone number 0135-2760911.
