NHM workers to protest in a different way

Published on:

In a novel method of registering their protest the contractual employees of National Health Mission (NHM) would put in two hours of additional work every day after their duty hours from October 8 to October 10.

The State president of National health Mission Contractual Employees association, Sanjay Chauhan made this declaration while addressing a press conference here on Tuesday. He said that the association in support of its five point demands would sport black arm bands and work for two more hours on these days. Chauhan said that if this method of agitation fails to impress the authorities then all the 1400 contractual NHM employees working in different projects of state health department would go on an indefinite strike from October 11.

The association is demanding reinstatement of one of a worker Jaspal Rana who was removed from the service recently. Chauhan said that the State Chief Minister Harish Rawat while addressing the convention of NHM workers on September 19 had categorically assured that no worker would be removed.  He said the CM in his address also assured to remove pay anomalies and said that the state would examine the cases of some other states where NHM workers were regularized and implement the same in Uttarakhand too if possible.  The association is miffed at the fact that even after the assurance of CM of not removing any worker the service of one of NHM workers was terminated within three days of declaration. The members of the association are also demanding an insurance cover and implementation of a proper HR policy for them.

The President of the association said that the expulsion of Rana is irrational as he is awarded with certificate of excellence for last four years consecutively in Rashtriya Bal Swasthaya Karyakram of which was manager. The surgeries of 440 children were conducted under RBSK last year which is a record. Rana who was present on the

occasion said that the department officers are falsely claiming that he has resigned from service.
