NHM workers go on mass casual leave from today

The mass casual leave call by the contractual workers of the National Health Mission (NHM) is likely to affect the health services from Monday.

The National Health Mission Contractual Employees Association has, however, decided that workers posted at the emergency health services would deliver their duties in larger public interest.

The State's President of the association Sanjay Chauhan told The Pioneer that the working committee took the decision to keep the emergency health service away from the ambit of strike on Sunday.

He said that the association has decided to conduct blood donation camps all over the State on Monday to hammer home the point that the association gives importance its social commitments.

The members of the association would donate blood at Government Mela Hospital in Haridwar, Government hospital of Rookree, Gandhi Park in Dehradun, Sushila Tiwari medical college hospital in Nainital, Base hospital Almora and district hospitals of Pauri, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh and Udham Singh Nagar on the day.

It is worth mentioning here that all contractual health workers of NHM worked for two hours more than their duty hours from October 8 to October 10 while sporting black arm  bands in support of their demands.

There are more than 1400 contractual workers employed under NHM who are working in different projects and hospitals of State Government. These employees demand wage revision, health and life insurance cover and removal of pay disparity.

The association is particularly agitated as one of an employee Jaspal Rana was removed within three days of the public declaration by the State Chief Minister Harish Rawat that no NHM worker would be removed.

The CM had made this declaration while addressing the convention of NHM workers on September 19. These workers are also demanding that the State  should initiate process of their absorption in State services as done by the Governments of many other States.
