NH-534 blocked after downpour trigger landslides

People in Kotdwar town of Pauri district were severely affected by the heavy shower which lashed it on Friday and Saturday. The heavy rain brought traffic to a standstill on the important Meerut–Pauri National Highway (NH) 534 after a huge landslide near the Panchva Meel area between Kotdwar and Duggada blocked the highway. Though the authorities are trying to clear the road of the debris to normalize traffic movement it is unlikely that the national highway would be reopened in two days.

The Khoh river flowing from Duggada to Kodtwar town is presently in spate.  Besides, Paniyali rivulet which wreaked havoc in the town last year is now in a swollen state as it has breached the wall of the army canteen.

Water has entered many houses in the residential colonies of the town following the torrential downpour. A forest check post located near the revered Sidh Bali temple has been damaged too by the gushing water. SDM of Kotdwar Kamlesh Mehta said that the administration is on alert mode and relief camps at lalbati Chowk and GIC school have been opened for the flood-affected people.
