The State Meteorological centre has issued an alert about possibility of increase in rainfall during the next 48 hours from Thursday afternoon/evening.
The Met office has forecast heavy rains/thunder showers especially on July 19 at a few places in the mountainous regions and at isolated places in the plains of Uttarakhand. The Dehradun district administration has already shifted residents facing the risk of flood on the banks of Rispana and Bindal rivers to safer locations. However, the officials and locals in the mountainous regions of Uttarakhand are keeping their fingers crossed because if the increased rainfall does occur and cause landslides and floods, the State machinery and residents will have their problems increase manifolds.
The people are still trying to recuperate from the disaster which hit the State on June 16-17. However, the residents and authorities still have at least one day to prepare and take necessary measures to mitigate damage if it rains heavily as forecast on July 19. According to the Met office, Dehradun on Thursday would experience cloudy sky, moderate to more than moderate rain/ thunder showers (one or two spells). Maximum and minimum temperatures in the State capital are likely to be around 30°C and 24°C respectively on Thursday.
