Newly appointed asst profs dithering on joining posts

Reflecting the existing trend of Government employees showing reluctance for joining duties in remote locations, more than of half of the recently recruited assistant professors have not joined. The State Government had given appointments to 103 assistant professors in the Government colleges of the State but only 54  have joined their duties.

To fill large number of vacant teaching posts in the Government colleges of the State, the Higher education department had sent a requisition for recruitment of 273 posts to the State Public Service Commission but the commission had sent a selection list of 116 candidates to the State Government for appointments.

Appointment letters to 103 selected candidates in three lists were released in August and October. The department is now sending the letters to the remaining 13 candidates.

When contacted, the Director of Higher education department Jagdish Prasad told The Pioneer that the department gives a time period of one month to the candidate to join duty. He said that the department would send the list of those who have failed to join their duties after the end of joining period to the State Government.

Interestingly, the State Government had decided that the newly recruited Assistant Professors would be given appointments in the mountainous areas .  The department sources revealed that the public service commission has selected many candidates from outside the state and when they were given posting orders in colleges located in the mountainous areas they are either refusing to join or are delaying their joining on one or other pretext.
