Doon residents are not happy with the new traffic plan between Clock tower and Astley hall.

Dehradun police has imposed a new traffic plan in which no traffic is being allowed directly to clock tower from Rajpur road or chakrata road to Darshanlal chowk. Traffic has been diverted from Astley Hall-Kanak Chowk--lansdowne Chowk-Darshanlal chowk-Clock Tower between 6pm to 8pm. A shopkeeper Vinod Kapur said: "We don't understand why police is imposing new rules daily."  He said that the new traffic rule is creating traffic congestion and because of it everyone is facing problem. Traffic should allowed in Gandhi road so that there are less chances of traffic jam in Rajpur road.

He also said that this is the time of festival and during evening time large crowd is coming to the market, but new traffic plan has been hampering their business. It is also creating nuisance for the people who are new in this place as they are getting confused in the routes, he added. An auto-rickshaw driver Shukdev Raj said that by imposing such rules, police is generating problems for the people. He said that on evening everyone is in hurry to reach home and now traffic is being diverted; so everybody is facing problem.

He also said that in case of emergency, people will definitely face problems. This is the festival time and the number of tourists are also more during this season and they are getting confused about the routes. Such rules should not be made for the evening time police should set some other time for route diversion so traffic jam chances can decrease, he added.

A local resident Monika said there is no need of imposing such rule as each one is finding it difficult to cover such long distance to reach Chakrata road from Rajpur road. She further alleged that everyday police is making new rules. For instance, earlier they made a rule that one will not get petrol without helmet and now diverting routes.

Another shopkeeper Mandeep Khurana said that this rules is made for the roads, but it is largely affecting our business.  Mostly people especially office going do their shopping at evening time and now they are not crossing this lane so it is affecting business of every shop located near these routes. He also said that due to this rule traffic congestion is increasing and it is also raising the chances of accident. People don't have the proper driving sense and police is also making such laws so it is creating problem for other people, he added.

Another person Gulshan Kumar said that number of people and number of vehicles are increasing daily and traffic jams have become routine affair in the capital city and imposing such rule shows that police is promoting traffic jams. He also said that those who live in these areas are facing many problems because they use these routes daily but now they have to cover a long distance to reach their homes.
