New traffic plan: SSP told to stop experiment

Published on:

Taking cognizance of the public outrage following the Dehradun police enforcing a new traffic plan as part of an experiment to ease the traffic jam between Astley Hall to Clock Tower, Cabinet ministers on Thursday have conveyed to Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna to take action against Dehradun SSP Kewal Khurana; otherwise it would create a law and order problem in the State capital in the coming days.

Cabinet ministers conveyed this to the Bahuguna at a Cabinet meeting; so the CM categorically instructedthe Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar to look into this matter. The Pioneer has been consistently raising the issueof people’s inconvenience due to the new traffic plan since Sunday.

Following the CM’s instructions, Kumar told the Dehradun SSP to “stop doing experiment” on Dehradun roads with immediate effect, “otherwise the Government will take stringent action against you”. With this official communiqué, Derhadun Police went on the backfoot and decided to remove barricades which were raised to enforce the new traffic plan from Friday in between 8 am to 8pm.
