Apart from being swanky, the new buses of Uttarakhand roadways have inbuilt system to control the speed of the vehicle, a device which would be handy to check the speed and reduce the number of road accidents.

The Uttarakhand roadways had recently purchased a fleet of 483 new buses. These buses have an automatic speed governor and Anti-lock Breaking System (ABS).

The General Manager (GM) operations of Uttarakhand roadways Deepak Jain said that these buses has speed governor which do not allows the vehicle to exceed a limit of 75 kilometers per hour. He said that speed limit of the buses which would operate on hill routes would be readjusted soon.

Jain said that the ABS would ensure safety for the passengers as the vehicles would get halted easily.

The old buses of the state roadways were not equipped with speed governor and ABS. The engineering wing of the roadways used to install its own speed governor which is crude and ineffective.

In this practice a piece of iron is welded on lower side of the accelerator to prevent the driver from speeding the vehicle beyond a certain limit.

In one of the biggest purchases by Uttarakhand roadways in recent years a lot of 483 new buses were procured.

In the deal, 367 buses were bought from Ashok leyland while 116 were purchased from Tata motors. Out of these 250 buses are of narrow wheel base (166 inches), which would be used for the mountainous routes.

While 117 buses are of 205 wheel base and 116 buses have 210 wheel bases which are designed to operate on plain routes.
