New rules to identify Statehood fighters

Published on:

With the State Government toughening rules for identification of those who took part in the Uttarakhand statehood movement as statehood freedom-fighters, now mere  publication of name in any newspaper about their role in statehood movement will not set the base for people  to be recognised as statehood freedom-fighters. According to the district administration Nainital, now as per the Government's order mere on the basis of publication of names in newspapers about role of the applicants in the statehood movement willnot be taken as base for the  status of statehood freedom fighters.

The applications who wish to be recognised as the statehood freedom fighters will have to submit adequate evidences suggesting their participation in the statehood movement. More so, the applicants can also produce evidences if they have any about their role in the statehood movement to the officials concerned in person, maintained the district administration, Nainital. The fact of the matter is that among other things local intelligence(lIU) reports, records with the respective police stations, medical reports to name a few are considered to be vital documents to support anyone's claim as a freedom fighter.
But as the officials concerned of the Nainital districtadministration said, in the absence of proper evidences, same lIU report is found attached with multiple applications with same name submitted to seek recognition as the statehood freedom fighters as has come to light while considering these applications.
However, the district administration Nainital has also advised the applicants to submit their contact numbers along with their application forms in regard to seeking recognition as statehood freedom fighters so that such applicants could be directly be contacted while considering their applications.
Mention worthy, families of many statehood freedom fighters who were martyred, are yet to be rehabilitated and as it is allegedly said many a number of people who were part of this Uttarakhand statehood movements, have not yet  been recognised  as statehood freedom fighters.
Agitation by these people time and again in different parts of the state demanding status of statehood freedom fighters lend strength to this belief.
The respective State Governments have only put a deaf ear to solve the issue of statehood freedom fighters, as people said here.
However, it is to be seen how quickly Chief Minister Harish Rawat who is trying  to reconnect with the people by certain social overtures like extending pension  cover to even farmers or free of cost pilgrimage to senior citizens to name a few under his own formula of social engineering, becomes able to deal with the long pending issues of Uttarakhand statehood freedom fighters who are stillfighting for their recognition in the Himalayan state.
