Despite the fact that power tariff was revised by the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission by nearly five per cent, the power tariff is reported to be lower than the neighbouring States. Shockingly, introduction of the new slab for the domestic consumers will prove dearer for those electricity consumers, who use more than 400 units of electricity.
In a recently power tariff hiked by Commission, the hike required to cover the gap in 11 months works out to 5.21 per cent and most of the sectors faced the brunt of hike in the power tariff against the Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited proposal of 61.37 per cent to cover the revenue gap. The Commission for the first time introduced one more slab of 400 and above units introduced under domestic category.
The energy charges for domestic consumers for the consumption of first 100 units have not increased whereas as Rs 0.10 per unit increased between 101-200 units consumption and Rs0.25 per unit is increased for those consumers who consume electricity between Rs201-400 units.
The other slab introduced for the first time by the Commission is above 401 and above units and will be charged Rs 0.40 per unit under domestic category.
One of the department sources who wished anonymity told The Pioneer that the power hiked is justified and was done after considering all aspects and to improve the financial status of the corporation. He further told that the power tariff is quite low in comparison to the neighbouring States of Uttarakhand.
