The state-of-the-art navigation technology in ENT surgery is now available in Uttarakhand. The famous ENT surgeon Dr DM Kala said that the Kala ENT centre Dehradun is the first centre is the State to have this technology.
Explaining the technique, Dr Kala said that navigation in sinus surgery can be compared with google navigation as just like the google, the navigation surgery for sinus guides the surgeons to reach the exact location in short time.
“The technology guides the surgeon to operate the exact site of the disease without injuring important organs like Brain, eye or carotid artery. For Navigation surgery in nose and para-nasal sinuses first of all CT scan is obtained. The CT images are fed to the computer which shows the scan in all three planes.
A specially designed headset on patient’s head does the automatic registration of CT imaging of the patient’s anatomy. After that the instruments used in the surgery are registered.
